TMS320F28335: Analog Ground Connection

Part Number: TMS320F28335

I am using a TMS320F28335PGFA for a design, but I am not using any of the ADC channels. I have them all grounded. For now they are grounded to AGND vs DGND for the rest of the board. AGND is also the return for the analog voltage sections on the DSP. The question I have is: If I am not using any of the ADC channels do I still need a separate analog ground (AGND) or can I connect all the return points (as well as the ADC inputs) to the digital ground return (DGND)?

Thanks in advance,

Wes

  • Wesley,

If you are not using the analog functionality of the design or are willing to take possible *analog* performance degradation due to digital switching noise, you do not need to separate the AGND from DGND.

We generally recommend that these are separated as it provides optimal performance for the analog features of the C2000 MCU. See the Hardware Design Guidelines (http://www.ti.com/lit/spraas1) for more information.
