CCS/LAUNCHXL-F28379D: Serial port denied access, interfere with mouse

We are using LAUNCHXL-F28379D and a PCB board to measure time with TDC 7200. But when we connect the LAUNCHXL-F28379D to a computer, it often interferes with the mouse. The mouse will float all around the screen and left-click does not respond. We also use Serial Port Utility to monitor the serial port from USB. But we also often get the serial port access denied. But the launch board is actually running and we can probe the signal from pins. Sometimes it works as normal.

We have tried change new launch board and tested on different computers, but it still keep happening.

Please provide more information. I don't know what type of application you are running on F2837xD that mught be having this effect.

We use the board mainly for communication to TDC7200 and a digital potential meter. Previously we use MSP430 and it was ok. But as we connect to this board(even without connecting to out PCB board), the mouse will float around the screen, we also cannot read data from serial port because the access is denied. It does not happen every time but it is confusing.

The only example code we have which acts as a mouse is the usb_device_mouse example.

If you are not running that example, then I do not think the issue is related to what is being executed on the device.

Now I am only running the example code blinky_cpu01, the LED is blicking on the board, but my mouse is still floating.

This appears more to do with your OS.

Can you reproduce this? Have you tried power cycling your PC and power cycling the board.

There is nothing in the blinky example which would act as a mouse to effect your mouse driver. I think this has something to do with your USB driver for your mouse or your OS.

Also consider that the LAUNCHXL-F28379D is drawing its power from the USB port, and the F28379D can generally consume more power than MSP430. You might try using different USB ports or even an externally powered USB hub to see if the USB voltage might be drooping.

We tried used different desktop/laptop, Windows 8, windows 10, use different mouse, or long press the reset buttom. It still happened sometimes.

I don't think we will be able to help you much.

Can you try updating your mouse driver? I think this is unrelated to C2000.

Using an external powered usb hub is not helping. I don't think it is a power issue because as the mouse it floating, I also cannot access the serial port. I don't know why the port access is denied.

Dingkang,

We have not heard of any similar reports for this product. If this is a new board that has never worked, you can try to initiate a return or exchange with your place of purchase.
