Please send us the updated linker command file as well since the error console does not provide info on the exact issue.
The issue " program will not fit" is because one(or more than one) section used in your application is bigger than the assigned section. You may need to assign to a bigger memory section or multiple memory sections.

For example:
.data : > RAMLS1

If your LS1 is of size 0x800 and ,data is more than that. You could do the following:
.data : > RAMLS1 |RAMLS2

I started editing an example project from controlSUITE. In this project, the .cmd file is not to be seen. The project runs and I'm able to work with the code without any errors.

You can see that there are no errors and also the linker file is excluded from build. The properties of the project is as shown below.

You can see that the linker command file option is blank by defaults in this example project.

For these settings of the project, I am able to run the code and it works too.

Since I needed more memory space for my variables, I wanted to edit the linker file (which is not seen).  So I edited the properties to choose my RAM linker file as shown below.

Then the RAM_lnk_cpu1.cmd was linked. When the code was run with this file linked (without editing it), the errors occurred while building as mentioned in the earlier post and also shown below.

Please help me resolve this issue. Thank you.

Hi

I checked the Project Properties -> C2000 Linker -> File Search Path and there was 2837x_RAM_lnk_cpu1.cmd was included. So I removed it from there and added it separately. This resolved my issue of cmd file. Thank You

Further, could you help me with the ram size allocation issue?

Now the variables are allocated to the RAMLS5 memory as can be seen from the cmd file details below.

The RAMLS5 memory size is 800 starting from A800. Therefore end at B000. From B000 to B800 is RAMD0 and B800 to C000 is RAMD1. 

From C0000 to 1B0000 are the RAMGS0 to RAMGS15 memories.

Increasing the size of RAMLS5 is not possible because adjacent memories are RAMD0 and D1. 

What are RAMGS0 to RAMGS15 used for? Can I edit the location of variables to RAMGS5 and increase the size of RAMGS5 like shown below?

Hi Amrutha,

GS RAMs are Global Shared RAMs. They are shared between the two CPU subsystems. But at a time, only one CPU "owns" the GS RAM. The other CPU would only have read access to it. Ownership is configured for each GSx RAM. LSRAMs on the other hand, is scoped within a CPU subsystem. Each subsystem has its own LS RAMs.

GS RAM can be used to store variables if LS RAM is not enough. One thing you need to keep in mind while using GS RAMs is, you need assign the owners for the GS RAMs you use. By default, all the GS RAMs are owned by CPU1 subsystem. So, If you use the same code on CPU2, it may not work.
