CCS/TMS320F28069: does the mcu tms320F28069 support ethercat ?

Part Number: TMS320F28069
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE, , TMS320F28379D

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi TI expert:

Now our project needs ethercat communication function, i have no ideal whether our mcu support it or not? can you give me some suggestion?

mcu is: TMS320F28069, which is used to control server motor

CCS: CCS6.1.1

Looking forward to your reply.

We don't have etherCAT support for F28069.

Edit: Your best reference would be (the ECAT SPI communication to ET1100 option): http://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSECATCNCD379D However, this won't work out of the box with F28069 and will need software rework.

  • Hi, Chris,

so the configuration is okay that  using F28069+ Beckhoff® ET1100 EtherCAT slave controller (ESC) to implement etherCAT function?

i know that the software should need rework.

  • i mean that i will buy TMDSECATNCD379 EtherCAT Board and then replace its Delfino microcontroller with my F28069 mcu. is is okay?
  • Feng

That will only be possible if your F28069 MCU is setup with a high density connector. Otherwise, my recommendation regarding the 379D ECAT board was merely as a design reference.

  • Hi Chris,
    get it.
beside the HW connector problem, i want to ask sw compatible problem:

    1. my current project is developed based on tms320F28069M, which is not support ethercat. and my CCS version is V6.1.1 and controlSUITE is 3.3.9

    2. i know ti provides a demo board, which can realize ethercat function, the TMDSECATNCD379 EtherCAT Board, which is based on Delfino microcontroller TMS320F28379D and Beckhoff® ET1100 EtherCAT slave controller (ESC) with CCS version Version 8.2.0 and controlSUITE version 3.4.9
    3. My question is: is it feasible to implement ethercat communication that i buy TMDSECATNCD379 EtherCAT Board and then replace its Delfino microcontroller with my F28069 mcu? if it is ok, then do i need upgrade my CCS and controlsuite to new version if i want to refer to the example code in TMDSECATNCD379 EtherCAT Board?

    Looking forward to your reply.

If your F28069 is a custom board that has a high density connector than it may be possible to get working, but a typical F28069 controlCARD will not work. You wouldn't need to update controlSUITE. The examples are built for CCSv7.

Side note: I will be out of the office until December 4th, please expect delay in replies.
