TMDSHVMTRINSPIN: Comparison with TMDXIDDK379D?

Part Number: TMDSHVMTRINSPIN
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMDXIDDK379D

Hello,

I want to purchase TMDSHVMTRINSPIN for AC motor control applications and I have two questions:

1. I saw in the user guide that there are examples about field oriented control, but is it possible to have other types of control such as "direct torque control" with this kit?

2. I found another kit named "TMDXIDDK379D", which is also used for motor control and is more expensive than "TMDSHVMTRINSPIN ". What is the difference between these two?

Regards,

Ata

  • 1. Direct torque control is a software algorithm that TI didn't have this reference code, but both kits can support this algorithm from the hardware side.
    2. TMDXIDDK379D includes all motor drive control functions on TMDSHVMTRINSPIN, but it only supports F2837x or F2807x controlCard with standard 180-pin HSEC interface, and it has more position sensor interface. But it can't support the DIMM100 based controlCARD like F2806x or F2802x, so it can be used to drive the motor using instaSPIN-FOC or InstaSPIN-Motion based F28069M or F28054M controlCARD. TMDSHVMTRINSPIN can support sensored based encoder, sensorless-FOC or BLDC drive control, it can be used for instaSPIN also.

More detailed information about these two kits could be found in below two links.

  • Thank you for your explanation.
So from what you said, I understood that TMDXIDDK379D is more general than TMDSHVMTRINSPIN, right? Also TMDXIDDK379D  has more powerful processor so I think it is the better choice. Is there any difference between sensing capability or other performance criteria between these two? Can't I use instaSPIN on TMDXIDDK379D? I want to get the one by which I can do all sensored and sensoreless motor control applications such as AC, BLDC and PMSM. Could you please make a suggestion?

  • 1. Right, TMDXIDDK379D has more supporting functions on motor control than TMDSHVMTRINSPIN, like supporting SIN/COS, Resolver position sensor interface, current sensing by LEM and inline sensor. More detailed information could be found its guide.
    2. No support instaSPIN yet if use F28379D/S controlCard with IDDK.
    3. Maybe, TMDSHVMTRINSPIN should be fine for you if you just need a hall effect or encoder position sensor.
