TMDSSOLARUINVKIT: Outer DC loop testing

Part Number: TMDSSOLARUINVKIT
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SFRA

Hello everyone,

Is there a way to test/tune the outer DC loop without connecting the grid. In the document, we have a way to tune the Inner current loop real time via Build 2.

I have PV emulator and 100ohm resistance available as required for the testing. According to me, If the outer loop is not tuned properly the DC link voltage will not be stable which can eventually lead to some trip command as per the State machine and the inverter will shut down immediately  So, I want to know whether we have any method by which we  can test/study the outer DC loop performance.

  • Yes, you can test the outer DC bus voltage loop for the DC/DC stage. Just turn off the inverter stage (turn off inverter PWM). Then apply appropriate resistive load across the DC bus. Then test the transient performance. Or run the SFRA to check the voltage loop Bode Plot.

  • Hi Shamim,
Sorry, I failed to mention , I was talking about the outer DC link voltage loop for the DC-AC stage.

  • Yes, you can test the outer DC bus voltage loop for the DC/AC stage with out connecting to grid. Use an appropriate resistive load (R) across the inverter output. The resistor R should be such that for the maximum current injected by the inverter current loop should not cause AC voltage higher than 240V rms (choose something lower than the max output voltage rating of the inverter) across the inverter output. Now calculate the max power (240*240/R) and then set the PV emulator max power point (MPPT point) to this value (240*240/R).
