CCS/TMS320F280049: A question about address jumping of 28049

Hi,

We are facing a problem :

We used CCS3.3 to compile a 28032 project, the Compiler of CCS3.3 is TI V5.2.4, here is some code.

#pragma CODE_SECTION（AppMain，"AppRun"）

void AppMain(void)

{

...

}

After compiling is finished, we can find the address of "Appmain()" in flash with cmd file, the address is 0x3F0001.

we can use the code "asm(" LB #0x3F0001);" to jump into function Appmain.

Now we use CCS8.2 to compile a 280049 project, the Compiler of CCS8.2 is TI V18.1.3.LTS, address of "Appmain()" in flash is also 0x3F0001, but the code "asm(" LB #0x3F0001);" failed. the data in 0x3F001 is 0xFFFF.

Our question is, why the code "asm(" LB #0x3F0001);" failed with 280049?

how can we jump to the function successly?

You might have a look at the datasheet of F280049 since you are using the absolute address in the assembly code, the 0x3F0001 is not an address of FLASH memory on F280049, it's an address for Boot ROM that is not be accessed.

i'm sorry to make a mistake, the address of function in 0049 is 0x092004.

You should define the address of memory correctly in the .cmd file according to the memory map of the device, and set the correct "AppRun" address in the .cmd file also, and find the absolute address of Appmain() to set it to your assembly code. The Appmain() maybe not the start address of the assigned memory section for "AppRun" if the section has been assigned to other codes also.

test we have done:
1.
void SclTestExit(void)
{
// asm(" LB #0x082004");
PlatMain();
}
With this code program can run normally, use simulator to see the address of PlatMain is 0x082004.
2.
void SclTestExit(void)
{
asm(" LB #0x082004");
//PlatMain();
}
With this code program can’t run normally, read 0x082004, the value is oxFFFF.

Our question is, how can we make the PC point jump to a specific flash address to run a function with “asm(" LB #address")”?

TI uses "LB _c_int00" in its code. I see no reason why you could not do the same. You may want to look at f28004x_codestartbranch.asm as a reference.

Hi Todd,

Customer replace the "main() "function by "#pragma CODE_SECTION(PlatMain, "AppProgstart"); void PlatMain(void)", and after build the project, there is "00082004 _PlatMain" & "0008292f _c_int00 " in the map file.
If branch to PlatMain() program, will "LB _c_int00" also worked, but not use" LB #0x082004"?

c_init00 calls main at the end, so I don't believe that would work.

If want to jump to specific address can do the following: ((void (*)(void))entryAddress)();

My customer is try to jump PC point from one bank to another.

I'm not sure whether ((void (*)(void))entryAddress)(); can jump between two banks.

Do you have a detail sample code about this? I don't know how to use it.

If possible, Can I share source code to you?

There isn't anything special needed to jump between the flash banks. Just set entryAddress to where you want to go.
Also, this will also work: asm(" LB 0x90000"); - We use this as part of our live DFU solution. Can view in C2000Ware under flash driverlib examples.

((void (*)(void))entryAddress)(); is used as part of our boot code. Also can be viewed in C2000Ware.

Example:
entryAddress = 0x90000; //bank 1 sector 0
((void (*)(void))entryAddress)();

Thanks for your reply, my customer can make PC point jump successfully.

More one question: if I define a function, such as PlatMain(),

if PlatMain() was not called in program code, CCS8.2 would optimize the code, there is no function address for PlatMain in map file, but CCS3.3 would give PlatMain address in map file.

Our question is, why CCS8.2 didn't give address to PlatMain(), why CCS3.3 give it. this is our optimization set in CCS8.2

I assume you are likely moving to a newer compiler, which may be the cause. I don't know the exact specifics, but use the following pragma to keep it from being removed.

#pragma RETAIN(PlatMain)
PlatMain()
