TMS320F28035: Programming issue

Part Number: TMS320F28035

I have two F28035 Piccolo Experimenter's Kit : www.ti.com/.../TMDSDOCK28035. i am getting issue of programming in one of kit and other is working fine.

i am getting following error during programming from code composer studio.

Error connecting to the target:
(Error -151 @ 0x0)
One of the FTDI driver functions used during the connect
returned bad status or an error. The cause may be one or
more of: no XDS100 is plugged in, invalid XDS100 serial number,
blank XDS100 EEPROM, missing FTDI drivers, faulty USB cable.
Use the xds100serial command-line utility in the 'common/uscif'
folder to verify the XDS100 can be located.
(Emulation package 7.0.188.0)

i am getting following com port description in working kit from device manager in windows when i connect kit : XDS100 Class USB Serial Port(COM10)
following for the kit that i am getting programming issue: USB Serial Port(COM14).

I have also tried with interchange piccolo control card find that control card working fine in other docking station.

My issue is that, I getting issue of programming because of docking station. Please help me to solve issue of programming.

Thanks,

Jignesh Patel

  • Hi Jignesh,

Could you try reprogramming the Experimenter's Kit that isn't working by following the following procedure:
    https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/21086

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Hi Jignesh,

It has been a few days now.  Have you been able to make further progress?

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Thanks Brett,

I haven't get chance to follow your suggested step, I will follow it as soon as possible and update you.
  • Thank Brett,

I have tried with your steps in given link.
Now i am getting comport name in Device Manger : XDS100 Class USB Serial Port(COM10) and also not getting error 151 but getting different error while debugging and loading program.

    1. while loading program from CCS ( code composer studio) -> run -> load -> click on current project, I am getting following error

    Error connecting to the target:
    (Error -1041 @ 0xFFFFFF4C)
The debug probe reported an error. Confirm debug probe configuration and connections, reset the debug probe, and retry the operation.
    (Emulation package 7.0.188.0)

    2. While debugging project from CCS -> run -> debug (or press F11) , i am getting following error.

    Error connecting to the target:
    (Error -1015 @ 0x0)
Device is not responding to the request. Device may be locked, or the debug probe connection may be unreliable. Unlock the device if possible (e.g. use wait in reset mode, and power-cycle the board). If error persists, confirm configuration and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK).
    (Emulation package 7.0.188.0)

Please help me to solve this issue.

    Thanks,
    Jignesh Patel
  • Hi Jignesh,

Good - you are now definitely closer.

Can I assume that you are also seeing a "Texas Instruments Debug Probe" entry show up in Windows Device Manager?

    ===

If so, I cannot think of what may be occurring now, but here are a few thoughts:

    • Can you try unplugging and then re-plugging in the Docking Station's USB cable.  This may cause the Windows driver to release & reload.
    • Is the other Docking Station still able to connect to CCS?
    • On the non-working Docking Station, does the connected controlCARD's LD1 light up when the Docking Station gets powered?

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Hi Brett,
    Thanks for your valuable input,

Yes it displays "Texas Instruments Debug Probes" in device manager attached image file for reference.
I tried with re plugging USB cable and also restart my laptop but not working.
My second Docking station is working fine and also LD1 LED is getting powered on.
My program is also running fine in controller board but only issue is with the docking station regarding programming.

    Thanks,
    Jignesh Patel
  • Thanks, Jignesh.

    Just a few other questions:
    1) Has this Docking Station ever worked correctly?  Or did it work at some point since the time you bought it?
    2) Looking inside the Docking Station's connector (J1), do you see any contamination that may prevent good conduction between connector & controlCARD?

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Thanks, Brett.

    1. Yes, I have been using it from last 6-7 month.

    2. On J1 connector, it's look clean. no any contamination that prevent conduction between connector and control card.

    Thanks,
    Jignesh Patel
  • Hi Jignesh,

Unfortunately, the only thing I can conclude is that the FTDI chip U1 (or U4) got damaged from ESD (or some other similar occurrence).  Or potentially that J1 is damaged (or feasibly J2).

As a result, I think you will need to buy a replacement kit.  Note that we do not sell the DIM100 Docking Station all by itself, only as a part of an Experimenter's Kit.

    • U1, and most of its surrounding circuitry, works because the FTDI can be reprogrammed using MPROG
    • Your CCS installation, target configuration, and drivers are working since the other identical kit works
    • The controlCARD is not the issue, since that controlCARD works when put on the other Docking Station
    • This means the issue has to be between the FTDI U1 and the controlCARD interface at J1

I'm sorry that I don't have better news.

    Thank you,
    Brett
