TMS320F280049: Position Manager PTO Library Availability

Part Number: TMS320F280049

Hi,

Background

I am interested in utilizing the 'F280049 with the PTO QepDiv functionality from the Position Manager library currently available for the 'F2837xD device supported by the CLB peripheral.

Questions

  • Are there current plans for supporting this function from the library on the 'F280049 device?
  • Is there an estimated timeline if the library functionality is planned?
  • Will multiple instances of the QepDiv functionality ever be possible?
    • To clarify, the current implementation is XBAR4,5,6 generates on PWM2 + index on XBAR3 (GPIO 2/3/4 in the library user's guide). Would it somehow be possible to have input XBAR7,8,9 go to another QepDiv instance that generates on PWM3 + index on XBAR[#]?

Thank you for any insight which can be provided!

Best Regards,

Mark-

  • Hi Mark,

Are you really just trying to generate a scaled down version of the pulse train from the QEP inputs?

We are not carrying forward the library examples of position manager any further. Our strategy is to give customers the tools to go build these things for themselves and to give examples of how to do some of these things by using these tools. The recommendation would be to get the customer on the CLB tool which should be available later in the year. We will also have an example that shows how to generate a pulse train output that looks like a quadrature encoder output.

    Thanks,

    Jitin
  • - There is a plan to provide a reference example for PTO implementation for F280049 device.
    - Yes, above example will include the function implemented as library on F2837xD device. Timeline will be later half of this year, early 4Q.
    - Yes - multiple instances are possible. Note that we are working on a tool to enable customers to configure CLB on their own with release timeline, same as above. You could use the tool and example as reference and build configuration on your own.
  • Hi Subrahmanya,

Thank you for the details regarding timeline and specifics on including the function currently in the library as an example for the CLB tool.

To clarify, no interim availability for any Position Manager functionality will be available for the F280049C prior to 4Q's CLB tool?

    Hi Jitin,

Initial system requirements call for a divided down QEP input signal, with up to 4 outputs preferably with individual dividers. Yes, that is indeed what is trying to be shown and evaluated at first.

In general, it is great to hear the CLB is being opened up further for customer development and use through a tool. This would seem to be rather more difficult to develop/enable at first, but something long-term that can be leveraged in many custom applications.

    Best Regards,

    That's correct.

Yes. Having the tool and reference example would enable customers to start developing their own configuration and also enable users to create custom applications.
