TMS320F28379D: F2837x and F280049 GPIO Input Internal Pulldown Resistor Configuration?

Part Number: TMS320F28379D

Texas Instruments:

The F2837x and F280049 GPIO Input pins may be configured to employ an internal GPIO Pullup resistor by using the GPIO_PULLUP defined constant in the list below that applies to both the F2837x and F280049:
     GPIO_INPUT
     GPIO_OUTPUT
     GPIO_PUSHPULL
     GPIO_PULLUP
     GPIO_INVERT
     GPIO_OPENDRAIN
     GPIO_SYNC
     GPIO_QUAL3
     GPIO_QUAL6
     GPIO_ASYNC

As indicated in the F2837x and F280049 Technical Reference Manuals (TRM):
"Pull-ups can be used to keep input pins in a known state when there is no external signal driving them."
(Note that the F2837x TRM uses the word "pullups", that needs the first letter 'p' capitalized, instead of the word "Pull-ups" as used in the F280049 TRM.)

A Pull-up is needed when there is no external signal driving an Active-Low input.
A Pull-down is needed when there is no external signal driving an Active-High input.

Questions:
Is it possible to configure an internal GPIO Pull-down?
Or, is it necessary to configure as GPIO_OPENDRAIN and then include an external Pull-down resistor?
