CCS/TMS320F28377D: Problems with dual core debug

Suddenly, or was it a CCS update, my cpu1 debug sessions fail to step through my C sources and also fails to halt on main() after load or reset. Cpu2 debugs as usual.

What are the common checks in these circumstances. The debug propertes seem unaltered, must be something else then. Do I need go back from CCS 8.3 to 8.1?

I have to admit that I stopped understanding the dual core debug system, as soon I could produce working code, some years ago.

What are you seeing when you say "fail to step through C source"?
Have you changed any CPU1 code or compiler version or literally only updated CCS? Is the device getting a reset? Sometimes if you have a lot constant and global variables to initialize, the watchdog can timeout before main.

Upon loading a RAM .out on Cpu1, it is says immediately :-0x3fe493 (no symbols defined)- the same after reset. The problem must be boot.asm, which is an updated version: ...\ccsv8\tools\compiler\ti-cgt-c2000_18.1.4.LTS\lib\src\boot.asm.

The system tries _c_init, but apparently fails.

Too much new features in the new CCS8 in this (final) stage of the project

yes, I literally only updated CCS.
yes, the device is getting a reset.
Found that CCS8 complains about the compiler version, I need C2000::16.9.5, downloaded and installed, registed in preferences, myriads of new problems

I first updated CCS, met the first problems, then decided for a complete clean new installation of ccs8.3 (was 8.0)

One place to look: processors.wiki.ti.com/.../C2000_Multi-Day_Workshop - chapter 11 has a lab which is loaded into CPU1 & CPU2

If your device is getting a reset, your watchdog might be timing out. Have you tried the project with watchdog disabled?

Also, Todd provided a good resource to refresh on multicore testing.

Chris, decided to stick with 8.3, create a new perspective with only the .c, .h, .cpp remaining and worked hard to run everything again.
Debugging goes now as normal.
