TMS320F28375S: G3-PLC Solutions for CENELEC Band

Part Number: TMS320F28375S
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AFE032, , TMS320F28069, AFE031

Hello:

In the past we developed a product with TIDM-SOMPLC-FCC (based on the TMS320F28375S + AFE032) for G3-PLC working on FCC Band and TI provides us for it the G3_SDK_Package_V7_7_6_6.

Now we must develop a CENELEC Band application. This TI solution seems to be also specified for CENELEC band but I have found in your web the TIDM-SOMPLC-G3-CENELEC which is based on TMS320F28069 + AFE031.

    • Can we use TIDM-SOMPLC-FCC  with  G3_SDK_Package_V7_7_6_6 for CENELEC Band (CENELEC C Band in concrete) as it is specified?

    • What are the differences between the two TI Solutions and why the second uses AFE031 instead of AFE 032 if it is also suitable for G3-PLC CENELEC Band?

    • What is de SDK-Package for the TIDM-SOMPLC-G3-CENELEC solution?

I hope you can help me in order to choose the best TI Solution for our needs.

    Hello:

We need to assure a G3-PLC communication in CENELEC band in a line of more than 2Km long. We want to develope repeaters that could resend messages towards far destinations based on TMS320F28375S + AFE032 or TMS320F28069 + AFE031. I have thougth using hops configuration and Discovery Path for the repeater PLC the Routing Table in order to create in the device that allows to the repeater resend to the following hop to the Final Destination. Is this correct?. Have you documentation about this issue?

Also, we want to avoid using host for this PLC repeater because we do not need it except for the start configuration. I think the PLC based on C2000 microcontrolles needs a host at least for configuring the PLC in the start. Is it posible to change the SW developed by TI in order to stablish the default parameters at the start without the need of a host?

    Thank you.

  • Miguel,
I've joined these two threads as they are related.

To level set the situation I cannot recommend either of these solutions for a G3 PLC network. The reason being is that TI has stopped developement on all eMETER based PLC topologies/systems and no longer has active support for these solutions. We also no longer sell any of the PLC KITs on the TI Store.

All of the TI devices are still in production, but as you have noted there is quite alot of overhead in getting the system to work robustly. I know the above info may be dissapointing, but I want to make sure this is understood before you make a decision on your platform.

With that said, there may be an option using your existing FCC SOM/KIT:

Q1)Can you use TIDM-SOMPLC-FCC with G3_SDK_Package_V7_7_6_6 for CENELAC band.
A1)I beleive that the G3-FCC FW has an option to change the comms band such that you can run that package in the CELENAC band vs the FCC band. The native G3_SDK_Package will NOT run on the FCC SOM(PN TMS320F28375S) as it is built for the F28069/PLC84 MCU as you mention. The difference in the AFE031/32 is the supported frequency bands so while the AFE032 could support CEN band(as CEN band is a subset of FCC) the AFE031 could not support FCC bands.
If there is not an option to run the FCC FW/HW in CEN band only, then the only option would be to use the F28069/PLC84 + AFE031.

Q2)In terms of needing a host, I beleive this is not necessary as multiple SN should be capable of transferring data with no host/DC.

    Best,
    Matthew
