LAUNCHXL-F28069M: Error occurred while executing External Mode MEX-file 'ext_comm'

Hi,

Currently attempting to follow the steps in https://au.mathworks.com/help/supportpkg/texasinstrumentsc2000/ug/parameter-tuning-and-signal-logging-with-serial-external-mode.html , while using the  LAUNCHXL-F28069M. When switches are set to on-on-on and J1 and J2 are connected as there currently is no booster pack connected, i get the following error:

When the switches are adjusted too on-on-off, the following error occurs:

Different com ports ( 1 and 3 ) have been tried and still cannot get it too work. Provided is the device manager screenshot:

I have also followed the steps here https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/670519 to enable XDS100 usb serial port on LAUNCHXL-F28069M

Any help would be much appreciated.
