Linux/TMS320F28388S: running Linux

Part Number: TMS320F28388S

Tool/software: Linux

Team,

Can ARM Cortex M4 of this TMS320F2838x run a full Linux OS?

Or is it solely for Ethercat/etc. connectivity?

Thanks

Viktorija

  • Viktorija,

Short answer: No, TI does not support Linux on the F2838x devices. The device family was not designed with the Linux OS in mind.

    Some details:
The Full Linux OS requires a processor with a MMU (memory management unit). The Cortex M3 and M4 architecture does not have an MMU so the full Linux OS cannot be supported on any M3/M4 device. There are modified versions such as cLinux out there... however, the F2838x was not developed with any version of Linux in mind nor do we support any variant of the Linux OS on this device.

    TI's SYS/BIOS is supported.
