TMS320F28377D: IDDK development kit : DC-Bus link capacitance

Part Number: TMS320F28377D

Hello,

We purchased one set of the IDDK development kit a few years ago.

I have a question on its power circuit.

Specifically it is on the DC-Bus link capacitance.

The capacitor array for the DC-bus link is composed of three electrolytic capacitors of C1, C2 and C3.

The capacitance of each capacitor is 330uF; therefore the total capacitance for the DC-Bus link is 990uF.

I need to know how the capacitance of 990uF has been obtained.

Additionally it would be very helpful if you inform me some application note which is related with issue.

Thank you for your guidance.

With regards,

G. Kim

  • This was done based on ripple current estimate, trying to ensure about 10% of the full load current will be ripple to be supported by the capacitor. This was initial estimate anyway, and finally they are chosen based on availability/cost of the cap rather than the exact design calc value.
