Hi TI experts,

Our company is using F28335 at the moment. We are shortlisting a few microcontrollers from both TI and other manufacturers to upgrade our platform.

The page of TMS320F28388S shows "PREVIEW". I am not quite sure what it means.

(1) Does it mean that the price, performance, functions I see on this page will change anytime before the final release?

(2) I can see that the control card for evaluation purposes is available now. Is TMS320F28388S available now in relatively large quantities (say 1k)?

(3) What is the timeline for the final release?

    PREVIEW means that a device is not yet in production.

    Typically with semiconductors a device is released with prototypes (not fully electrically characterized / tested) to let customers get started with designs before production starts.

    1. For F238x devices the key features aren't going to change, but there could be a silicon revision to fix any issues found before production and the datasheet will undergo updates with TBD specifications updated to actual.

    2. Typical pre-production quanitities are usually limited to 5-20 pcs per customer. It is not ready for 1ku type of orders.

    3. For semiconductors this is typically 3 months to 1 year. It depends on the complexity of the device and the markets it is designed for. For F2838x this PREVIEW phase is planned to last 1 year from the time we introduced (June 2019).

    I should also point out that during PREVIEW we will only offer one part number for paid orders / free samples / use on EVMs. For F2838x it is the superset TMS320F28388D

    Once in production the other part numbers will be available for paid orders, but we typically still only free sample this superset version.
