LAUNCHXL-F28069M: Problem installing InstaSPIN Universal GUI

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28069M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: INSTASPINUNIVERSALGUI

I tried downloading this several times and when I run the instaspinuniversalgui_v105.exe program, Bitdefender reports:

Ransomware behavior remediated
Feature:
Ransomware remediation
The process D:\Libs\Downloads\instaspinuniversalgui_v105.exe manifests ransomware behavior and was blocked. Your files have been protected from being altered.

I can't install it without disabling Bitdefender, and I'm not willing to risk my production PC by doing that.
I have attached a screenshot of the message from Bitdefender.

Has anyone else seen such a warning?

  • I don't have any issues with the installer on my machine. I'm using a different antivirus program though. I did a quick search of the forum to see if others have reported issues with GUI Composer based installers and Bitdefender and didn't find anything.

What we typically recommend to people when they have installation issues is to try temporarily disabling their antivirus software or add an exception for the installer in question if possible.

  • I'm sure you can understand my hesitance to allow a program that the antivirus reported as "manifests ransomware behavior" to run, either by disabling Bitdefender or by adding an exception, unless there's some assurance that there is in fact nothing hiding in the download.

I have also brought this to the attention of the support folks at Bitdefender.  Not sure if they'll download it and check it out - I sure hope someone can explain why it thinks this file has ransomware in it.

I'll certainly pass along any results they get.

Incidentally, I have only given Bitdefender the link to the web page.  Would it be OK for me to send them the file itself?  Granted, it's a quarter of a gigabyte, but they did ask for it.

  • Sure, I understand. I'll be interested in hearing what Bitdefender says. Let's see if they're okay with downloading it from the site first.

In the meantime, I'll copy of the GUI Composer team to this thread and see if they have any ideas.

  • I'm afraid I don't have anything more to add than what Whitney already suggested. It's not very common, but every now and then we hear of issues with certain anti-virus software, although I haven't heard of problems with BitDefender myself.

I am also interested to hear what the support folks at Bitdefender say, and hope they can provide assurance that it is safe to add an exception for it.
