TMS320F28335: Boot mode pin configurations

Part Number: TMS320F28335

I am designing a PCB that will use the F28335 MCU and want use JTAG for programming.  I need to know what to do with the boot mode pins (GPIO84-GPIO87) if a plan to only use JTAG.  I do want to design the board to be able to utilize boot from SCI-A in the future, but that will be sometime in the future.  If I configure the pins for SCI-A boot mode, will there be any issue when using JTAG for programming?

Thanks,

Brandon

  • Brandon,

The boot pins won't interfere with connecting the JTAG or programming with the JTAG.  I would put some weak Pull Ups on the pins to set the device to boot from Flash(even though there are internal PUs, we recommend external ones to inhibit noise).

For the SCI future proofing, I would put some associated stronger PDs that would get activated when you plug in you SCI header.

We also have this app note that discusses how to make a boot kernel when you do use SCI for updating the flash.
