controlSuite crashes

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

Can't you change the controlSuite to use something else than Crosshairs piece of garbage? I can't start the program it will crash every time. The updater works so I will get the latest files but other than that it doesn't work. I have send a lot of error reports with their error report tool but even after several updates it just doesn't work. Is it only my computer or? I'm using 64-bit Windows 7.

  • JHi,

Can you please contact me at clearman     ti.com?

Cross Hairs has been doing extensive automated testing across a variety of windows installs to make sure these problems are resolved.  I understand your frustration and I'd like to make sure we get this issue resolved for you as well as any others.  We had many issues at the beginning (especially with Windows 7 64-bit) but most of those have been resolved.  We are expecting a new revision of their "engine" for our next release in January which has major improvements.

BTW - have you tried downloading and extracting just the .zip file from here: http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/controlsuite.html

If so, does this also have the same crashing issues?

  • I just sent you an email with the printscreen of the error message.

  • JHi,

Assuming the controlSUITE installer worked and you installed controlSUITE into the default location, all the files can be found at C:/TI/controlSUITE.  The Crosshairs tool is meant as a navigation tool to help guide you through the directory structure, but the files will exist locally on your machine.

    Thanks,
    Brett

  • Hi Brett,

I know that I do have my files in that directory but that is not a question in here. I don't do anything with the program that crashes every time I try to use it.

  • Even after few updates Controlsuite crashes every time I start it. The version is: 1.2.1.4894 [x86]. I hope you will change this Crosshairs junk soon.

  • Still crashing! I have sent error reports to Crosshair... no help. Anyone out there who can hear me? Anyone out there who can help me?

  •  does the controlSUITE GUI even open?

if it doesn't even open the one fix we have seen is that you have to set your windows to use . and not , for decimal (set to English).

if it crashes while open we aren't aware of a single other case like this.

I still get the same error  I sent you 15.12.2010. Changing to English didn't help. It crashes while opening. Means, I can't get to the GUI.

    JHi

  • JHi,

First of all, I would like to apologize for the problems you are experiencing with the controlSUITE GUI.

We have indeed seen the error reports and have investigated the issue, but have not been able to reproduce on our test machines. From the error reports, it appears that another process (which we can't see) is attempting to access one of the assemblies that are being loaded during startup of the controlSUITE GUI.

What I would like to suggest is that we build a new version of the controlSUITE GUI binaries for you to try out. It will be much easier for us to troubleshoot this issue directly with you rather than to go through a full update release of the controlSUITE GUI.

If this is OK with you, please contact us at support@crosshairsembedded.com and we'll get started ASAP.

    Best regards,

  • Hi Andreas,

I just sent you an email.

    JHi

  • Just wanted to post the solution to the problem here in case others are experiencing similar behavior:

In previous versions of the controlSUITE we shipped 32 and 64-bit libraries that were used by the controlSUITE depending on the architecture of the machine. This was since changed to only include portable 32-bit libraries. The problem JHi experienced was caused by the old 64-bit specific library still being resident on his system - and being used by the controlSUITE.

No update is required to the controlSUITE in order to resolve the problem, simply follow the steps below:

    1. Delete the C:\TI\controlSUITE folder (note that you must backup any changes you have made to projects, source code etc in the controlSUITE before doing this)

    2. Download the controlSUITE installer or ZIP archive from http://focus.ti.com/docs/toolsw/folders/print/controlsuite.html

    3. Install the newly downloaded controlSUITE and replace any files you backed up.
