Hi Guys, just a quick question. I'm using the TI ControlCARD Docking station [R4.1] with my 28377D control card [R1.1] to experiment with, which works great BTW. I totally LOVE C2000 Assembler. :)

Anyway, I'll be designing my own 176 PIN 28377D standalone board and I was wondering if you can help with what I would need, like what software I would need to download my assembly code and which flash programmer I would need to use. I'm reading up on downloading the code to a standalone board and the communication mode it uses is the SCI USART mode which seems pretty easy to use but I'm not sure what I would need to do to that. lol. Any pointers would be muchly appreciated.

Did you go through our Serial Flash programmer app note? http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprabv4c/sprabv4c.pdf

If not, please take a look.

Also, if you want to download your code to Flash during development, you can use CCS itself. In CCS, when you load an executable that is mapped to Flash, CCS will automatically invoke the Flash Plugin (CCS Debug view -> Tools -> On-Chip Flash) and program it in to Flash.

We also have a JTAG based standalone (no debug environment) Flash programmer called UniFlash: http://www.ti.com/tool/UNIFLASH

Hi Vamsi, Thank you for the info. I checked out UNIFLASH and I can't seem to find how to psycially connect it to a F28377D standalone board.

It explains the software part of it but not the hardware part of it. So I can write my assembly code using CCS9 and then download to the F28377D but which serial programmer do I use and which pins to connect it to?

Please let me know.

Peter,

UniFlash is JTAG based. You can connect to it as you connect to CCS.

Regarding Serial programmer: As mentioned in the Serial Flash programmer app note (http://www.ti.com/lit/an/sprabv4c/sprabv4c.pdf), please read "ROM Code and Peripheral Booting" chapter in the TRM (http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruhm8h/spruhm8h.pdf) to know how to interface with serial bootloader. It provides details on how to configure the boot mode pins for SCI boot, SCI-boot flow, boot loader data stream structure and the SCI instance (A) used in the bootloader etc.

Regarding the GPIO pins used by the SCI boot loader, please look at "Table 6-15. GPIO Pins Used by Each Peripheral Bootloader" in Datasheet at http://www.ti.com/lit/ds/symlink/tms320f28377d.pdf.
