LAUNCHXL-F28379D: Launchpad Suddenly dead

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D

Hi,

The launchpad suddenly went irresponsive when working and it is no more working. The LEDs are no more light when connected to PC and no more able to build from Simulink. Following error shows while building in Simulink.

SEVERE: IcePick_C_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -151 @ 0x0) One of the FTDI driver functions used during the connect returned bad status or an error. The cause may be one or more of: no XDS100 is plugged in, invalid XDS100 serial number, blank XDS100 EEPROM, missing FTDI drivers, faulty USB cable. Use the xds100serial command-line utility in the 'common/uscif' folder to verify the XDS100 can be located. (Emulation package 8.2.0.00004) SEVERE: emulation failure occurred SEVERE: Error connecting to the target: emulation failure occurred *** Cannot create a valid debug session for Board/CPU=*/C28xx_CPU1. Make sure this matches only one board and one CPU. Exiting...

Update:

I think some shortcircuit happened. Not sure. The voltage at 3.3V rail is not proper, its around 0.4V. I have removed JP1 jumper and D4 Led turns ON.

Simulink error is

SEVERE: IcePick_C_0: Error connecting to the target: (Error -2131 @ 0x0) Unable to access device register. Reset the device, and retry the operation. If error persists, confirm configuration, power-cycle the board, and/or try more reliable JTAG settings (e.g. lower TCLK). (Emulation package 8.2.0.00004)

  • Hi Praveen,

It sounds like the F28379D or other device on the board has been damaged via EOS or ESD.

If you can determine which device is damaged (perhaps by determining which device is heating up) you could attempt to replace that component to repair the board.

  • Hi,

When I close JP1, F28379D heats up. But if I open then its fine. I think F28379D is damaged. Is there any other method to find which is the damaged component?

  • Hi,

Is there any external EOS/ESD protection circuitry that can be used along with F28379D launch pad. I will be using DAC, ePWM, ADC pins of launchpad for power electronic device controls.

  • Hi Praveen,

I don't think the launchpad has any provision for protection diodes or series resistors on the ADC channels.  If you build a custom booster-pack you'd want to add them on that board.

If you look at the ControlCard (the other C2000 EVM platform) there is a little bit of guidance for how a protection scheme could work, although I'd recommend that you put the series resistors between the protection diodes and the input and populate them with something other than 0-ohm.

You can also do something similar to protect the digital IOs.
