CCS/TMS320F280049C: Need help choosing a microcontroller

Part Number: TMS320F280049C
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AMIC110, AMIC120

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I use tms320f280049c to control the power circuits, now I need to add another microcontroller to help me interact with the user via the interfaces Ethernet, Ethercat, CAN and RS485. There is not much space on the board, so I’m considering the smallest cases, it’s not more than 12x12mm QFN with integrated MAC and PHY. What typical solutions are usually used together with TMS? I also want to make a small web server.

  • Hi Max,

Due to the US Holidays please expect a reply by January 6th.

    Best Regards,

    Marlyn

  • The smallest device with CAN option will be F28030 (60MHz). We also have F28388 MCU with EtherCAT option. But that will not be the smallest and cheapest option.

  • Hi Max,

Shamim has provided some good things to consider.

Some additional parts to potentially consider are below.  Note that this C2000 subforum will be less knowledgeable on these devices, so if interested I would recommend posting to the forums which support the respective parts.

    • MSP432E* may be an option to consider if the need is for ENET PHY+MAC, CAN & RS-485.  It does not have a provision for ECAT though.
    • Finally, while not classified as an MCU, you may also wish to consider the AMIC110/AMIC120. For many situations where multi-protocol industrial ethernet is needed in a control system, we often recommend an AMIC110 + a C2000 device.  This of course also won't be a small QFN, but I believe there are BGA options available.

    Thank you,
    Brett
