LAUNCHXL-F28069M: Powering Launchpad with +5 V through mini USB connector

Hi,

I am planning to develop the system based on LAUNCHXL-F28069M operating in stand-alone mode (no Emulator) and executing the program from flash memory. In reference to this, my question is:

Can I use +5 V supply to power the launch pad through mini USB connector of the launchpad ? I will keep jumpers JP1 & JP2 populated.

or do I compulsorily require 3.3 V supply to power the launch pad through connector J9 ?

    Yes, you can do this without any issues. The 5V USB power is stepped down to 3.3V by the TPS62162 device. JP1 and JP2 are meant to connect the stepped down 3.3V and GND across the isolation barrier to the target device side of the LaunchPad.

    Thanks for your reply and clearing my confusion as well as boosting my confidence to go ahead. 

    So, I can use the external +5V supply to power the launch pad through miniUSB connector. One more question on similar line for better clarity.

    Can I use that same external +5 V supply to power +5 V driven section of Launch pad circuitry through pin no. 21 or 61 of Launch pad ? I will remove jumper JP3 and keep jumpers JP4 & JP5 populated.

    JP3 is needed to be populated to have +5V on pins 21 / 61. From the schematic the +5V (LP_5V) at JP3 is generated by boosting 3.3V on the C2000 device side of the board. See schematic images below for this:
