CCS cannot connect to 28035 Experiment KIt via USB interface

Hi, the USB interface is used for both power supply and debug, with the 28035 Experiment Kit. XDS100 v1 or v2 is used as a debugger, and target hardware is 28035 experiment kit. However, CCS cannot connect to the board. The following error message came out.

C28xx: Error connecting to the target: Error 0x80000240/-154 Fatal Error during: Initialization, OCS,

Please let me know what the problem is.

Thanks,

John

  • Hi John,

    1. Did you check whether the USB Emulator is working?

    2. Is the Experiment board powered on?

    3. Is the USB emulator blinking when connected, if it has any led on it.

you can check for other options and more data at the below link:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100

As well, they have provided one solution for one of the common issue, which you can check with.

  • Mohan, I'm trying to use the XDS100 circuit on the experiment kit. In order to debug the experiement kit in CCS, I believe we need to select XDS100 as emulator, and connect to 28035 experiment kit. Please let me know if this is the case.

  • Yes,

you need to select it as XDS100 as emulator during the board set up.

    And

XDS100 V2 is not supported by the CCSv3.3

The below is the installation note from the link I shared before:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100

Note: Code Composer Studio v3.3 ONLY supports XDS100v1 hardware emulator. XDS100v2 hardware is NOT supported on Code Composer Studio v3.3.

    A. Install Code Composer Studio and XDS100 Software before connecting XDS100 USB hardware.

    1. Install the Code Composer Studio version, service release and/or XDS100 SW as detailed in the table below prior to connecting the XDS100 SW.

    B. Connect the XDS100 hardware

    1. Make sure the XDS100 Software is installed FIRST per the table above before plugging in the XDS100 HW to the PC.
    2. Connect USB cable from the PC to the XDS100 hardware. Connect the JTAG to the target board (be careful to plug it in correctly: pin 1 should go to pin 1. Red strip usually indicates the side of pin 1)
    3. You will notice small popups to inform user that USB hardware is recognized and installed correctly. No input are required.

    C. Setup Code Composer Studio v3.3

    1. Select CC Setup icon from the desktop.
    2. From the filters panel, select the platform "xds100usb emulator". This will give you a list of predefined configurations. Select the one appropriate for your device
    3. Save your configuration and exit CC Setup
    4. Start Code Composer Studio
    5. In Code Composer Studio, go Debug-->Connect. Note: "connect to target" may take long time (>5 seconds) for the first time XDS100 USB is connected to target. It is not the case with subsequent "connect" operations.

     Regards,

    Mohan

  • Thanks again. Customer is using CCS v4. What is strange here is that, he can debug targeting ControlStick (the same XDS100 interface with target 28027 ControlStick). He followed the same procedue, but he cannot connect to 28035 Experiment Kit. Any clue?

  • Hi,

This can occur for several reasons. With XDS100 systems, this can occur because the EEPROM was not programmed properly. Please check with your XDS100 manufacturer.

check with this option. and check whether the same unit can be accessed with CCS v3.3

If the same board, with same emulator, if works in CCSv3.3. It means CCSv4 needs an update, which you can contact TI.

    Regards,

    Mohan

  • Another option to consider -

If the device is locked, you may need to set the boot pins to wait mode - then reset the board and try connecting.  On Piccolo and Delfino devices, If the device is locked, and device is not held in reset (either by the emulator - for those emulators which support "wait-in-reset" mode) or by setting boot pins, the ECSL logic will trip and prevent CCS from connecting.

  • Hi,

I'm using a Piccolo experimeter kit, and I get an error saying  the device is in 'wait in reset' ... I cannot program again the board, what should I do?

    Thanks,

    Monica
