TMS320F28379D: Naming scheme of F28x / Future of Motorware and InstaSPIN MOTION

Part Number: TMS320F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MOTORWARE, C2000WARE, CONTROLSUITE, C2000WARE-MOTORCONTROL-SDK, C2000WARE-DIGITALPOWER-SDK

Hello,

I would be pleased if you could answer me the following questions:

1) How is the naming scheme of your C2000 microcontrollers defined? Would it be true to say that all F280x are MCUs of your Piccolo Series (Entry to middle performance portfolio) and all F283x are MCUs of your Delfino (Floating Point) Series (High performance portfolio)?

2) According to the link below your Motorware library will not get any new updates. Instead you released the C2000Ware. Will Motorware expire and be replaced by C2000Ware?

3) It is said that InstaSPIN FOC will be part of C2000Ware. InstaSPIN Motion however will only be supported with Motorware. Are you going to cancel the support for InstaSPIN Motion too? What is your current and future solution for motion control?

Thank you in advance and kind regards

FW

  • 1. You may have noticed that we have started deemphasizing the names Delfino and Piccolo.  Originally Delfino was for our high-end series with floating-point (F283x, C2834x) and eventually added F2837x. Piccolo was for our more cost optimized series (F2802x, F2803x, F2805x).  Piccolo then added F2806x, F2807x, and most recently F28004x, which all included floating-point.   The lines start to get blurred between Delfino and Piccolo, especially as we release more mid-end devices, so you will just see us refer to the series number going forward.

    2. MotorWare continues to be the special solution for InstaSPIN-MOTION on F2806x,F2805x and InstaSPIN-FOC on F2806x, F2805x, F2802x.  It will not be updated any longer.  Other motor control solutions for other device series were supported in controlSUITE.  Newer Gen 3 devices (see the portfolio on www.ti.com/c2000 ) have all of their device level support through C2000Ware and any application specific examples through C2000Ware-MotorControl-SDK and C2000Ware-DigitalPower-SDK . These SDKs are updated nearly quarterly.

    3. InstaSPIN-MOTION is only supported on F2806x, F2805x series using MotorWare. There is no additional support planned.  We offer other servo position control examples in C2000Ware-MotorControl-SDK and those will continue to be updated.  InstaSPIN-FOC is supported in MotorWare for F2806x, F2805x, F2802x and supported in the C2000Ware-MotorControl-SDK for F28004x.

answers to questions 2 and 3 are also discussed on www.ti.com/c2000motor
