LAUNCHXL-F280049C: F280049C Over Heating Issue under Normal Operation

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Hi,

I have recently started working on a prototype which will be based on F280049C. To assess the capabilities and functionalities of this particular C2000 MCU, I am using TI Launchpad based on this MCU.

Following is the setup description.

  1. MCU is powered through USB only and no other connections are present.
  2. It is running either the simple blinking LED program or default program it came with.
  3. Voltage measured on JP1 = 0 (GND), JP2 = 3.216V, JP3 = 4.12V

One strange this I noticed that, the temperature on the MCU reaches about 170 C when measuring through Thermal Imaging Camera. Other than that the MCU seems to operating fine. I am able to flash the programs and able to debug them too.

What could be the plausible issue here? The voltage on the JP3? or some part of the MCU got damaged/shorted and drawing excessive current? If anyone has faced this type of issue with this board, let me know the cause. I just switched to TI from different manufacturer so not have much experience in this product line.

Best,

Amit
