TMS320F280041: TMS320F280041 DSP supply and ground shorting

Part Number: TMS320F280041
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28069

Hello Sir,

I have used TMS320F280041 Controller used in my project. Two times i faced problem like supply and ground of controller is short.

1) First case

One place controller is working ok,  then i moved Control card PCB to other place and its not working.

2) Second case

Control PCB working ok then i simply measure the 3.3V  voltage on test point of Controller PCB then its not working and its show supply and ground of controller is short.

I am not able to figure out the problem hoe is it possible.

Is it ESD Issue or some thing other issue please help me.

Regards,

Bharat

  • Bharat,

Can you clarify if you are using the TI produced control CARD, http://www.ti.com/tool/TMDSCNCD280049C  or is this your own custom PCB with the TMS320F280041 device mounted to it?

What is connected externally to the device either on the PCB or a connector?  Is there any chance an external voltage is present before the device is powered up?

    Will look for your answer.

    Best,

    Matthew

  • We are using our developed control card.

There is no chance an external voltage present on the device before device power up.

Previously, i used TI  TMS320F28069 Controller in other development .

I never faced this type of problem in TMS320F28069 Controller.

    Please suggest any solution.

    Regards,

    Bharat

  • Bharat,

Touching a PCB could cause ESD which damages the device. I do not know if that is your problem, and both F2806x and F28004x are capable of being damaged this way.

Was it a different time of year when you were developing the F2806x design? Winter months are usually dryer and cause more ESD build up. Did you get a new coat, socks? Possibly you changed the flooring in your office or maybe your ESD mat is out of spec. All of these play a SIGNIFICANT factor in potential ESD damage, so my instinct is not to jump to saying that this design or the F28004x microcontroller is more susceptible to ESD.

There is a chance that this could be a problem with your design, did you directly swap in a F28004x part into your F2806x design?

It might have something to do with the environment that the F28004x devices has been exposed to. What type of experiments were you running on your design? Were you connected to power electronics?

I have not seen an increase in failures of TI made evaluation modules between F2806x and F28004x. For this reason I do not think that this is a F28004x specific problem.

  • Are you still having issues with this? This thread will be closing soon due to a lack of responses.

  • We take extra precautions on our work place so now we are not facing that type of problem.
