CCS/TMS320F28388D: not connecting ... verification failing

Part Number: TMS320F28388D

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

28388D control card is not connecting …, am using USB to power the card ,,, I think S1 is configured correctly … was not sure from which side to look for right and left so tried all combinations... XDS100v2 is selected , but the verification is failing ..must be missing something obvious ..please advice. Regards Arefeen

  • Hi Mohammed,

Please open target configuration, and run "Test Connection" in the advance tab.

It should give more details on the issue.

Also, please go though the appnote  which details many JTAG connectivity issues.

  • Hello Santosh ..Many thanks for your reply,  however, this is what I confirmed so far ...

    1. The controlcard does not work stand alone. Meaning CCS does not connect.

    2. The controlcard works only when plugged in the docking station.

Please confirm if the controlcard works standalone.

    Regards

  • Hi Arefeen,

I checked with the team. The standalone controlcard should work. You will need to connect both USB if operating standalone. Just wanted to check, are you connecting both USB - one for onboard xds, and another to power C28x device.

  • Arefeen,

If you examine the schematics closely, 5V input to U14 can be provided by either the HSEC connector (on the docking station) or through J3 (the micro USB connector). The other USB connector (J1:A) conveys the USB signals to the FTDI chip and supplies power only to the emulation circuitry (not the MCU). MCU should be either powered by the docking station or through the other USB connector (J3)

  • Hareesh .. many thanks for the clarification .. this resolves my issue.. in my humble opinion, the fact that this control card needs docking station to operate should be clearly mentioned, specially, at the TI Store. Again, thanks for your help. regards

  • Arefeen,

Just to clarify, having the docking station is not a must. The Controlcard can work in standalone mode, provided both USB connectors on the card are connected to USB ports. (one port provides the needed signals for the JTAG debug probe and power for the JTAG circuitry; the other port provides the power-supply for the rest of the board and also USB connectivity to the on-chip USB). If you do use the docking station, then connecting the JTAG USB port alone would suffice. Bottomline: The Controlcard should be powered either via the docking station or through the 2nd USB port. It cannot be powered solely through the JTAG USB port.
