What is the criteria for selection.
The criteria for selection depends on your application. If you are looking for a general linker, I would start with the Generic FLASH and RAM linker command files. These can be updated for the specific application in use.

If it is a generic FLASH example, then yes. You can point the path to the generic linker command file. Or you can manually add the file to the project in CCS. Make sure there's only one .cmd file referenced in the examples.

Are you running a bios application? If so, then you would need the BIOS cmd file. Otherwise you would only need to include the device cmd. Normally the linker command file is copied into the project directory. If you are linking it, you will need to specify the include path to the file in the project properties.
For a CLA based application, I would start with any of the CLA flash or ram linker command files for the device CMD.
