TMS320F28388D: way to program the EEPROM for Ethercat

Hi Team,

My customer want to program the EEPROM even when there is no code in F28388, which similar to the way that ET1100 can do to program EEPROM independently, but from the reference design as below it seem it is impossible to program the EEPROM if there is no configuration code in F28388, any possible solution to address this if my customer want to program the EEPROM independently?

For clarification, they want to program the slave EEPROM via EtherCAT master connection without any EtherCAT initial/configuration code running on the slave?

Hi Chris,

That is correct, similar to ET1100 could do.

That isn't possible. F28388D at the very least needs to enable the ECAT IP, clocks, and GPIOs before basic master communication is possible.

Hi Chris,

If this is not possible, another workaround and better solution is that customer write an array to store external EPPROM data, and download to FLASH, when run the initialization code, read these data from FLASH and then write these data to external EPPROM by I2C, is it possible to do so? in this way customer don't need to use ECAT tool to download data to EPPROM.

If their board has I2C GPIOs connected to the external EEPROM as well, then yes, that would be possible.

However if they are going to load code, then why not perform the basic EtherCAT peripheral setup I described earlier so that they can just use the EtherCAT master to program the EEPROM?
