CCS/TMS320F28075: Setting up both CAN modules (CANA and CANB)

Part Number: TMS320F28075
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE, , C2000WARE, ISO1042, TMS320F28377S

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi,

I am trying to setup both CAN modules in the TMS320F28075 micro controller. I used the examples given in the ControlSuite, but unfortunately those examples did not work.

Then I found out the examples given in C2000Ware, and I managed to get one CAN bus up and running (CANA) using can_ex3_external_transmit.c. However, when I try to setup the

other CAN bus (CANB) using the steps given in the example, it was unsuccessful. If anyone has managed to get both the CAN buses up an running simultaneously please help me

out.

Thanks in advance.

Nisal

  • Hi Nisal,

Can you give more details about your setup?  What hardware did you use (ControlCard or LaunchPad)?

    Thanks,

    Joseph

  • Hi Joseph,

I am using a custom built platform with the TMS320F28075 chip. I referred the TMS320F28377S LaunchPad as a reference. I am using the ISO1042 as the CAN transceiver. The oscillator clock frequency is 20 MHz, and the CPU clock frequency is set to 120 Mhz.

    Thank you

    Nisal

  • Hi Nisal,

Ok, thank you for the details.  You mentioned using can_ex3_external_transmit testcase in your debug so I am assuming that CANA is able to send out CAN frames.  Were you able to confirm this with other external CAN receiver or through scope or by looking at the status registers?

Can you also describe which CANTX/RX GPIO channels are used for CANA and CANB in your platform and are there dedicated transceivers for each CAN module?

Testcase can_ex3_external_transmit is straightforward in that CANA is always transmitting data and data values are incremented each time there is a successful reception by CANB.  We can use this to debug your setup.

    Regards,

    Joseph
