TMS320F280049C: SDK FW/MTPA lab 13

It was my long standing belief InstaSpin FW ability any SPM can benefit from. Lab 13 text leads to confusing statements as MTPA is for all motors and only mentions IPM. Lab 13 later depicts graph does not indicate PM motor via FW plot title along with MTPA sends an unclear and conflicting message. How can MTPA switch work with PM but PM not work from IPM switch? The lab title also infers either SPM or IPM and attempts to boast SDK benefits over motor control suite calls to FAST versions that also supported PM under FW switch.

Are we to assume PM will benefit from FW? Was Motor control suite FW topic without salient IPM rotor being in the discussion?

  • Field weakening can be used for almost all motors include DC, PMSM and ACI motors. So both IPM and SPM motors can apply field weakening control.  PM motors are able to achieve field weakening by using the direct axis current to produce a flux linkage component that opposes the magnet flux linkage and thus reduces the back EMF to run the motor to a higher speed without increasing DC-bus voltage. There are many ways to implement field weakening control, to control the direct axis current, or to control the torque/current angle as we used in mc-sdk.
