TMS320F28027: Power Consumption for STANDBY mode and IDLE mode

Part Number: TMS320F28027

Hello Champs,

In F2802x TRM chapter Table 5-1:

Why is the current consumption in STANDBY mode lower than that of IDLE mode?

As described in IDLE mode, compared with STANDBY mode, XCLKOUT is turned off so that the current consumption in IDLE mode should be lower than that of STANDBY mode, is it correct?

Would you please kindly help? Thanks!

Best Regards,

Linda

  • Hi Linda,

Low power modes are implemented in the HW, where the clock gating to the device is different which in turn reduces the power based on the mode you select. Clocks to CPU and Peripheral are switched OFF in STNDBY vs IDLE mode hence the current numbers are lower.

Their is more detailed explanation in the data sheet under section "6.1.15 Low-power Modes"

    Regards,
