TMS320F280049: F28004x Programming, does require external oscillator

Part Number: TMS320F280049

Dear team,

I would like to understand if F28004x programming requires the utilization of an external oscillator/crystal.

Thanks in advance for your guidance,

Kind regards,

Giuseppe

  • Giuseppe,

F28004x has a two on-chip oscillator clock system (10 MHz, feed into PLL).  You do not need an external oscillator/crystal to program it.

    Regards,

    David

  • In addition to David's comments. If you use INTOSC1/2 (Internal OSCILLATORS), they have +/-3% accuracy which needs to be accounted. For Flash programming you will need to add 1 extra Wait-state if you use internal oscillators.

We do recommend using external oscillator/crystal so that you can keep the wait-states the same between read and programming operation. But again it depends on system requirements and cost associated.

    Regards,

    Nirav

  • A small clarification. An extra wait-state is required for a few frequency ranges (see below from datasheet).  If you operate the device at 97MHz (as an example), 4 wait-states can be used.

    Thanks and regards,

    Vamsi
