TMS320F28377S: GPIO42 and GPIO43 for SCI-A

Hello Champs,

Customer is using F28377S(176pin) GPIO 42 and GPIO43 for SCI-A.

Would you please kindly suggest whether there is special hardware and software configuration requirement for these two pins used as SCI-A or not since they can also be used as USB?

Hi Linda,

Getting the SCI onto GPIO42 and GPIO43 works just like muxing for any other peripheral: the GPIO mux settings need to be set to enable this peripheral on the pins per the pin muxing table in datasheet:

Getting USB out on these pins does require some additional work because the AMUX needs to configured:

Once the SCI is enabled on GPIO42 and GPIO42, you'll need some external HW transceiver to talk to a PC or another board. On the Lauchpad there is a virtual COM port over the FTDI chip which also provides JTAG access. On a custom board, you'll need to supply your own FTDI HW or an appropriate transceiver (e.g. RS485).
