TMS320F280049C: Whether LIN interface has SCI function with 16 level - depth FIFO

Hi Expert,

Customer need 3 SCI for communication work. Actually there're 2 SCI on F280049, we'd like to suggest LIN as SCI to use.

However, not sure if LIN interface has SCI function with 16 level - depth FIFO.

By the way, if CAN could be used as SCI?

Hi Rayna,

Yes, LIN can be used as SCI, but it does not have 16 level - depth FIFO, but it does have multi buffer mode which can be used during RX and TX.

Hi Rayna,

CAN protocol and its pysical layer is not compatible with SCI. The CAN transmit and receive frames are very different with SCI and CANRX/TX lines have to connect to a transceiver with a differential output so you cannot substitute a CAN for an SCI.

Apologize for delayed response.

Answers to your questions:

No, LIN multi-buffer mode does not replace 16 level - depth FIFO function. It will help with buffering data, but it is not 16 level deep.

Data handling needs to be taken care if you are using LIN in SCI mode, and you have code written for SCI with FIFO function enabled. Also the FIFO buffers are not present in LIN, so configuration will be different.
