TMS320F280025: F28002x failed to run with standalone mode

Dear team,

Mycustomer found the project worked well in emulation mode, but could not run in standalone mode. I have asked them to add the f28002x_codestartbranch.asm file into the project folder, it did not help. Furthermore, I suspected it is the same issue mentioned in this post https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/t/896527, after disabling the watchdog, it still could not work.

Could you please help check whether there are any other possible reasons? Their project schedule is tight, so highly appreciated with your prompt help here. Thank you.

Hi Aki Li,

Are you using the controlcard? Is the boot pins configured correctly on the controlcard?

Are you using driverlib or bitfields code?

Veena,

Their project was built with driverlib. And it also failed when programming the project with our control card, while using our example projects in C2000ware with their board, it could work.

Is customer programming security settings in USER OTP ? If yes, then can you ask them to check the Flash ECC error register in CCS register view to see if there is any ECC error.

Their project on your controlcard -> Not working.

Is that right? If yes, is it possible to share their code with us?

Is the C2000ware example working standalone on their controlcard?

Is it possible to check if the codestart section is loaded correctly at address 0x00080000 ( I hope they are using Flash boot mode option 1).

Also, as Vivek mentioned, can you check if there are no Flash ECC errors present after doing a poweron reset.

Yes, the C2000ware example can work with standalone on their controlcard.

In the emulation mode, it was shown that start point was at address 0x00080000. Could you please help share how to check it in standalone mode?

Aki Li,

As discussed offline, the reason for this behavior is that the compiler removed the code_start code from the linking stage as it is not explicitly called in any of the code. We need to add .retain keyword to tell the compiler that this section needs to be retained.

This is not needed with COFF compiler, since it always links all the sections included in the project.

I have raised a ticket to update the code_start file to add .retain keyword for all such unreferenced code. This will be fixed in the next C2000ware release
