CCS/LAUNCHXL-F28069M: unnable to connect/detect/flash

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28069M
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8305,

Tool/software: Code Composer Studio

Hi there,
I am totally new to TI suite and micro controllers and am trying to re-create this Dyno build.
But I have stopped at trying to connect to my Launchpad. It does not auto detect it and refuses to load any code on it.
The serial monitor works and I can see the Temperature Demo, but can't seem to flash it in any way.

My drivers seem to be in order.

This utility has selected a 100- or 510-class product.
This utility will load the adapter 'jioserdesusb.dll'.
The library build date was 'May 7 2020'.
The library build time was '21:10:18'.
The library package version is '9.2.0.00002'.

The controller does not use a programmable FPGA.
The controller has a version number of '4' (0x00000004).
The controller has an insertion length of '0' (0x00000000).
This utility will attempt to reset the controller.
This utility has successfully reset the controller.

-----[Print the reset-command hardware log-file]-----------------------------

The scan-path will be reset by toggling the JTAG TRST signal.
The controller is the FTDI FT2232 with USB interface.
The link from controller to target is direct (without cable).
The software is configured for FTDI FT2232 features.
The controller cannot monitor the value on the EMU[0] pin.
The controller cannot monitor the value on the EMU[1] pin.
The controller cannot control the timing on output pins.
The controller cannot control the timing on input pins.
The scan-path link-delay has been set to exactly '0' (0x0000).

  • Karlis,

We need to make sure the LAUNCH Pad is powered properly.

If you are not yet connected to the DRV8305 booster pack, then the power will need to come from the USB connection to the PC:

I would check the jumpers JP1/JP2/JP3 in the schematic(on page 2).  While the USB connection powers the XDS100v2, it will only power the MCU if these jumpers are populated.

Conversely in many motor control applications it is desired to have isolation from the PC to the motor system for protection reasons.  If you have the DRV8305 connected to the Launch Pad, then you need to dis-connect JP1/JP2/JP3 as the DRV8305 will provide the power to the launchpad.  In this configuration you would need to power the Booster pack before trying to connect with CCS.  The USB connection to the PC will still power the XDS100(which would explain the successful emulator ID you are getting).

Let me know if this solves your issue.

    Best,
    Matthew

What is the state of the switches on S1?

    From the LAUNCHXL-F28069M manual:

NOTE:The USB debugger cannot connect to the device when S1-Switch 3 is placed in the L position because TSRTn is disconnected from the XDS100v2.

From memory, the default state of the switches on S1 on a new LAUNCHXL-F28069M are set to boot the example program from flash, which prevents the debugger from connecting.
