LAUNCHXL-F28379D: CAN channels

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LAUNCHXL-F28069M, LAUNCHXL-F280049C

Hi team,

Good day.

Our customer is using the LAUNCHXL-F28379D and the device seems to have one CAN channel available. Is there a way to access the other CAN to use both channels to send and receive data since their applications require too many signals to be sent and received?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,
Carlo

  • Hi Carlo,

There is one CAN transceiver and header on the F2837x LaunchPad which CAN_B signals of GPIO12 and GPIO17 are brought out to.

There are a number of CAN_A MUX option signal pairs brought out to the boosterpack headers, such as GPIO4/5 or GPIO18/19, however they do not have a corresponding CAN transceiver. If a CAN transceiver is desired then you'd have to connect to one externally off the board.

    Best,

    Kevin

  • Hi Kevin,

    Thank you for your answer.

Do we have a C2000 board with more than one CAN channel with a transceiver available? I saw the LAUNCHXL-F280049C and LAUNCHXL-F28069M, however, these boards have only one CAN interface transceiver available.

    Regards,
    Carlo

  • Hi Carlo,

Sorry, we don't have a C2000 EVM that has more than one CAN transceiver. I can think of a couple options you could try below:

    • Wire CAN signals (and Ground) to a 2nd C2000 LaunchPad CAN transceiver pins. LAUNCHXL-F280049C would probably be best for this purpose since switch S9 can isolate the signals from the F28004x on board.
    • Leverage a TI CAN transceiver EVM that's available:
