TMS320F28069: What are the Pros and Cons of using Flash instead of OTP for custom bootloader?

Hello,

I am making a custom bootloader for the F28069 and was just curious if there is any downside to using the Flash space (with boot to flash boot option) to hold my custom bootloader, other than possibly wasted space. I think the recommended space for this is usually the OTP memory space (with the boot to OTP boot option).

Additionally, are there any security risk involved in putting the bootloader in flash other than in OTP?

Robert,

It helps to avoid accidental erasure of your bootloader if you map it to OTP.

Also, you can reduce the chances of depletion effecting your boot execution by placing the bootloader in OTP.

Thanks for your response, one additional question.

When you say that using the OTP for the bootloader "reduces the chances" of depeltion, is it reduced to 0% chance since its not erasing the OTP section ever?

EDIT: I see your comment is about the entire boot execution, which extends past the bootloader and into loading the flash app, which could also suffer from depletion. So I think I understand your comment now.

Answer: Yes, OTP does not get depleted.
