Dear Champs,

I am asking this for our customer.

They want to connect to TI PCM1754DBQR, which is an I2S-based audio DAC.

Questions:

1) Can F280049 support I2S?

2) Can SPI or FSI be used as I2S?

3) If the above are "yes", Do we have any app notes or reference codes?

As you might have seen we don't have I2S supporting peripheral to directly interface with PCM chip.

I'm not 100% on using SPI or FSI either. Can you give more details on what exactly customer is trying to do?

Hi Wayne,

A basic I2S implementation can be created by using both of the SPIs on this F28004x device. This kind of implementation may or may not be viable, depending on what's being interfaced.

Please refer to the below E2E link. And also the "SPI STEINV Bit in Digital Audio Transfers" section within the SPI chapter of the TRM.

Dear Brett,

I see.

As in this case, F280049 is used as I2S master, it seems the above two SPI method "SPI STEINV Bit in Digital Audio Transfers" may not work....

The user is looking for another MCU as SPI<->I2S bridge between F280049 and PCM1754 or consider using F28075 to replace F280049 because F28075 has McBSP to access I2S directly.
