Blew up my HVMTRPFCKIT controller

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CONTROLSUITE

In the process of going back and forth between level 2 (open loop) which worked and level 3 (closed loop) which doesn't work I managed to blow up my HVMTRPFCKIT power drive module (inside M5).  Phase V is now shorted to ground.  Does anyone have a part number for the big power IC?

Thanks in advance.

I guess this moves me back from 'Intellectual' to 'novice' or 'rank amateur'.  ;^(

  • Richard,

The board's full Bill of Materials should be found in controlSUITE at (assuming default paths):
    C:\TI\controlSUITE\development_kits\HVMotorCtrl+PfcKit\~HVMotorCtrl+PfcKit_HWdevPkg\R5

Good luck in tracking down the issue.  I hate when that kind of stuff happens.

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • We pulled the IC off.  It had failed (did I do thaaaat?).  I verified the part number with the BOM you directed me to and we have a few on order in case I do it again.

Just to be safe, I've turned down the current limit on the supply.  Even though it shuts down during over current, it is apparently not fast enough.

    Thanks for the help.

I absolutely don't agree with your above statement :-) although not desired .. units will "blow" up during development and testing  ... the important thing is to make sure they don't blow up at customer sites :-) Good luck with your development.

  •  Richard,

Did you contact Dr Ohm at Drivetech? I really think he can jump start your development.  BTW - we are working on this issue of the "non-PhD" getting into motor control....hopefully you'll be beyond our help (in a good way) when we have this ready for release.
