TMS320F28379D: C2000-GANG ERROR 23: MCU device init

Part Number: TMS320F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000-GANG

Hi,

I have similar error when using C2000-GANG on F28379D PCBA.  Even if I changed the boot mode to 'Wait boot' (the default pcba has GPIO72 and GPIO84 pulled 1k to 2.2V) by wiring GPIO84 to board ground, it still did not resolve the issue.  I have feedback to Elprotronics and am waiting for advice.  In the meantime, do you have any advice for me?  I urgently need advice on this.  Appreciate any feedback.

  • Benedict,

Are you using the C2000 GANG with the PC GUI or in standalone mode(no PC)?  If you have the GUI up and can take a screenshot of the settings I can take a look to see if anything looks incorrect.

Can you confirm that you can connect/debug normally with a standalone debug probe like XDS100v2 and CCS?  I just want to rule out JTAG as the issue.

    Best,

    Matthew

  • Hi Matthew,

I am using C2000 Gang with GUI for a start.  Attached is the settings screenshot.  Once this is successful, I will likely be using the script to automate on the production.

Actually I am not using other standalone probe.  However, my customer is using XDS with CCS and they are successful.  I have checked with them on the possibility of JTAG blocking the MCU but we have ruled that possibility out.

Thanks again for your help.  I am not really familiar with MCU thing.

     Regards,

    Benedict

  • Benedict,

If you select "blank check" can you let me know what the GUI feedback is? This will do a quick scan of the flash to make sure it is in the erased state.

Also, is the OSC field under the DSP Clock editable(I can't recall at the moment)?  If it is we need to make sure that this matches whatever external clock/crystal you have on the PCB.  If its not editable that's OK too and we don't need to worry about this setting.

    Best,

    Matthew

  • Hi Matthew,

There is a oscillator 25MHz connects to pin 'X1'.  I have tried changing the DSP to 25MHz but it still failed similarly.

There is 2 F28379D in the chain.  Do I have to do extra to take care of that?

If I click on any other button (other than Read), the software will crash.  I have tried reinstalling but still same behaviour.  Unfortunately, Elprotronics has not replied to my queries yet.

    Regards,

    Benedict

  • Benedict,

I'm sorry for the delayed response, Matt has been out of office.  I was watching his threads and let this one slip through.  Matt will be back next week and should be able to provide a reply Tuesday.

Again, please accept my apologies for not notifying you sooner.

    Regards,

    Joe

  • Benedict,

I discussed with Elprotronic on this.

Elprotronic currently does not support two MCUs connected in the chain (for MCUs that connect via IcePICK).  They are working to add that support.

    Thanks and regards,
    Vamsi
