TMS320F28388D: Run ethercat and ethernet UDP together

Hi expert,

My customer wants to use EtherCAT CiA402 and Ethernet UDP at the same time.

The communication period of EtherCAT is 62.5us. And they send a 40words a time.

Does our M4 support that kind of data?

At the same time, they want to use lwip and edit it to use UDP and the data is similar to the EtherCAT.

can M4 support run the two protocol together and support such data.

How many axis are they using with CiA402?

I don't see any issue achieving that communication time. I've run some tests (some of this data is shared in the EtherCAT user guide in the latest C2000Ware release) with the CoE profile (not CiA402) and there is certainly enough CPU bandwidth to do other tasks, though I am not familiar with the ENET items.

If I had to say, I'd think this is achievable to run both.

Thers are 6 axis in the system, which 1 F28388D drive 2 axis.

so there are 3 slaves in both EtherCAT and Ethernet loops.

You may or may not know all the details of their CiA402 planned implementation, but if they plan to implement all the CiA402 operation modes for 2 axis, they may run into RAM memory limitations trying to run that as well as the ENET solution. This is just something to keep in mind.
