TMS320F28062: PID Control - Battery Charger

Part Number: TMS320F28062
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDM-02002, SFRA

Hi,

I am developing a modification on a battery - charger and would like to make a new digital control.

The Industrial battery-charger uses a DSP (TMS320F28062) on which there is a digital control.
I would like to improve the control of the charger, hence the need for change.
I would therefore ask you for some TI application notes/Ref Design/hints on the PID topic considering:
- The machine is a battery charger and therefore I must be able to correctly regulate constant current / constant voltage
- The power is realized with hard-switching H bridge
- Better if the application note was already specific for battery - chargers

Thank you,

Antonio

  • Antonio,

For battery charger, normally you will be switching between constant current (CC) and constant voltage (CV) mode based on batter and charger characteristic. We don't have a batter charging control reference design, but have CC and CV control mode in reference designs like TIDM-02002.

For digital controller tuning, you can refer to books or papers. The SFRA tool offered by C2000 can help you look at the Bode plot of your system in open loop and closed loop, hence help with controller design.
