Problem with DIMM 168 Experimenters Board

Hi All,

After a long wait, I finally received my TMDSDOCK28346-168 experimenters kit, which includes the DIMM 168 experimenters board and the 28346 control card.  I installed all the software and drivers (easy to say, but no so easy to do), installed the control card in the experimenters board and powered up the board...  nothing.

  •   I checked the voltage at the input to the board, 0.1 V.
  •   I removed the control card from the experimenters board and then applied power to the board, LEDs lit, 5.14V at the input to the board.

Long story short (no pun intended), pin 107 of the experimenters board is connected to 5V.  Pin 107 of control card is connected to GND (which agrees with the schematic C283XX_B2H_CONTROLLERCARD_V1_1.DSN).  When the control card is installed, 5V is shorted to GND.  It appears to be a design issue; there was no solder-bridge or anything like that at the pin plus, the bottom side plane is GND, and one can clearly see the thermals around the GND pins.  No thermal on pin 107.

I think this is a relatively new board design as the TMDXDOCK28346-168 was recently superceded by the TMDSDOCK28346-168, but perhaps this incompatibility between the dock and the control card has been overlooked?

For lack of a better idea, I plan to scratch off the edge-connector pad on the control card and see if the card otherwise works.  I am hoping this is the only issue as I would have thought it would have been a very easy one to catch.

Best,

Andy

  • Hi,

I have orderd a TMDXDOCK28346 by mistake (on the tools webpage this one is still on the front page) and finally inside the TMDXDOCK28346-Box there was a DIMM168 experimenters board with a USB-JTAG on board.

I have also the same problem you written above. I put the controllercard shipped with the new TMDXDOCK into a baseboard(no USB) from a colleaques  and it works.

I have also the suspicion that this could be an issue with a new layout for the controllercard, because of the wrong placed capacitors on the old one.

If you look on the description of the TMDSDOCK28346 (on the toolpage), there is also mentioned that you need an external JTAG Emulator. So I'm not sure if this new board belongs to the TMDSDOCK28346 package.

I have asked the (local) TI-FAE and he also didn't know anything about this new board. He promised me to look for the schematics of the new board, but I didn't heard anything from him since a week.

    ciao,

     Stefan
