C2000 microcontrollers

Hi Team,

Hope you are all doing well. We need your help and assistance to recommend the nearest possible microcontroller for our customer.

Must have these criteria below:

-need to have 120MHz
-with SPWM or Vector PWM generation
-capability with multiple outputs ( 4 different outputs )
-Data logging (SD Card)
-CAN communication, Ethernet and couple of serial interface
- If the same micro has more than 4 ADC modules that will be great.

We are looking forward for your response. Thank you in advance for the support.

Best regards,
Jonathan

  • Hi Jonathan,

    I see two potential options:

    1) The F28384S looks to meet or exceed all your requirements.  It is a high-end C2000 MCU, and may be more than necessary.

    2) I might also recommend looking at the F28004x family, such as the F280049.  Below are some comments to address some of the perceived gaps.
     > This part is 100MHz.  However, it contains a CLA which provides an additional 100MIPS of processing power.  So customer has access to 200MIPS.  Additionally, the C2000's efficiency of MIPS tends to be higher than generic ARM cores, especially for real-time control software - and signal chain latency is also lower.  As a result, during evaluation customer may not actually need to use the CLA & may be able to use the F280041 subset device (https://e2e.ti.com/support/microcontrollers/c2000/f/171/p/21092/276807#276807).
    > This part does not have Ethernet.  If that is a requirement, the capability could be added using a SPI-based Ethernet controller (such as W5100S)
    > SD Card can be handled via SPI
    > The F28004x has 3 ADC, with up to 21 channels.  Each has its own Sample+Hold capability.  Customer would need to evaluate whether this is enough.

    Hopefully this helps!

    Thank you,
    Brett

  • Hi Brett,
