LAUNCHXL-F28379D: CCS 9.3 deprecated driverlib folders in bitfield

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-F28379D
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: C2000WARE

Hi Team,

Good day, customer is working in a CAN communication and want to confirm some information regarding the device. Below is the query of customer.

"

I created a working CAN communication system in driverlib only to discover that my colleagues have all used bitfield in creating code that needs to be merged together. After attempting to combine these files I found overdefined functions and overlapping include and linked files. I am now attempting to recreate the CAN communication based on the bitfield examples but have run into a few issues. First I wanted to ask if the CAN examples in bitfield functions will no longer be supported as they are using files in /ti/C2000Ware_3_03_00_00_Software/device_support/f2837xd/common/deprecated/driverlib/can.c and I am concerned why they are in /deprecated and also why they are using driverlib functions in a bitfield example.

Also, my standards require me to send integers but the bitfield functions, unlike the driverlib ones, have the data type of the msg as unsigned char instead of uint_8. I have simply changed these types but I was wondering if there is a better way.

Please let me know what the best way to move forward using bitfield or attempting to merge the driverlib and bitfield code. Is it best to continue to use bitfield with CAN if I want TI functions in future versions?

"

Thank you and looking forward for your kind response.

Regards,

Maynard

  • Hi Maynard,

Yes, the deprecated folder is no longer supported. Instead you can use the driverlib APIs in your code from the <c2000ware_dir>\driverlib\f2837xd\driverlib folder.

Also note that the bit-field & driverlib approaches are designed in a way such that they can work together. This is preferred in case you want to reuse some already developed code. However if you starting fresh, it's better to use either bit-field or driverlib approach.

    Best Regards
