F28388D EtherCAT FOE

F28388D EtherCAT communication, the BootLoader module is deployed in F28388D. When using TwinCAT3 to download the firmware, we choose .efw and our firmware is in .bin,hex,out.s19,msi and other formats, how do I need to convert it? There are still TI master stations similar to TwinCAT3 that can download FOE firmware.

Hi,

Are you wanting to implement FoE on F2838x EtherCAT? I don't believe we currently support the bootstrap state needed for FoE.

Hi,

You're ultimately interested in updating the F2838x device's flash over EtherCAT correct? Do you have the EtherCAT slave stack running on the F2838x device's CM (ARM M4) or C28x core?

EtherCAT slave stack include PDO is normal running on the F2838x device's cpu1.and I use TWINCAT3 verify that.

Hi,

While the EtherCAT peripheral on the F2838x can support FoE, we do not have a software example or driver readily available at this time for FoE. The FoE support is available as part of the SSC configuration.

How do your development colleague verify FOE function, Which program simulates the EtherCAT master.

Twincat3 must download .efw firmware file,but ccs can only generate .out or .bin,hex indirectly.

Hi,

We have not evaluated the FOE function the EtherCAT IP offers at this time and don't have a reference solution or document to provide. The FOE function is something our team will need to look into further.

There will be a number of considerations to make, even after the file is received, if performing a firmware update over EtherCAT on the F2838x. I can't speak on all the considerations now since I haven't extensively evaluated the use case.
