LAUNCHXL-F28379D: C2000 Launchpad External Power Supply Issue

Hi,

I'm using the C2000 F28379D Launchpad. I'm trying to provide an external 3.3V power to the launchpad instead of using the USB port.

I ensured that I'm getting 3.3V from my power supply and connected jumper wires appropriately from power supply to connector J10 on the launchpad, according to the user guide.

The C2000 launchpad does get power but the code is not executed correctly, as compared to when powered via USB. Moreover, when the 3.3V power supply jumper wire is removed, the launchpad stays on for some reason and a red LED turns on. I'm not sure what is happening here.

Could anyone please help me here if possible?

Hi Kartavya,

Have you removed JP1, JP2, & JP3 to isolate the F28379D side of the board from the USB side? What is the external 3.3V power supply you are using?

Hi Kevin,

no I forgot to remove the jumpers. Will test by removing that and get back to you shortly.

Currently I’m using a 5V DC power supply with LDO linear regulator that regulates 5V to 3.3V. Max power rating of the regulator is 6W. Do you think this will be fine?

Hi Kartavya,

Sounds good. Yes 6W at 3.3V is more than enough for powering the LaunchPad.
